Tootsie Rolls and a New Name.
When’s the last time you saw an ad for Tootsie Rolls? I’m not talking the talking owl from the 1970’s, because that was a Tootsie Pop, different thing. I’m talking regular old chocolate Tootsie Rolls. I’m pretty sure they don’t advertise. And maybe that’s the reason why I like them so much. There’s something quaint about them. Something cheeky. They’re chocolaty, chocolate flavored, but definitely not chocolate in the way traditional chocolates are considered chocolate. There always seems an abundance of them at the bottom of parade candy and Halloween candy bags. Meaning I’m always able to have far too many of them, usually all in my mouth at the same time. The fruit flavored ones are really good too. I am however confused why there are 2 different brands of the fruit flavored Tootsie Rolls and I swear they have the same flavor names, but they taste different.
I’m sure you’ve noticed this is the first post in quite some time. The main reason being I’ve been having some hang ups regarding the name of this thing. Because of this, posts have ground to a halt for the past few months. I love the name “smoke break” because its heckin cool, but I think it’s just a bit too unapproachable. Since becoming a parent I’m not sure smoking is the sort of thing I want to be condoning for my child. So, I’ll be changing the name to “Stay in School”
My thoughts behind the original name:
I already own the domain cigarettes.cool - and figured it’d be a great tie in.
Smoke Breaks should be celebrated are a moment of freedom in an otherwise very restrictive world.
Smoke Breaks may soon be a thing of the past. (as in less people smoking, but also, less people potentially working typical 9-5 Taylorist jobs as automation does its thing)
My thoughts behind “Stay in School”
I already own the domain cigarettes.cool - and I figured the email address stayinschool@cigarettes.cool is the funniest email address I’ve ever seen.
Stay in School celebrates the idea of continuous learning, continuous curiosity and continuously having an open mind to that of which we don’t understand.
School, in a traditional sense, may soon be a thing of the past. (as in less people going to school, but also, more people having personal tailored learning experiences as automation does its thing)
Let me know what you think in the poll below, or don’t - I’m pretty sure I’ve already made up my mind on the matter but maybe the right voice could sway me!
Also, I was never able to secure the smokebreak.substack.com subdomain anyways, so that’s another nail in its coffin.
I’ve got loads of topics to write on, so expect a bit more frequency here for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for stickin with me! Have a Tootsie Roll.
