You may notice a little change here this week. Starting this week smoke break will be sent out using substack, for email subscribers you'll notice the layout and design changes. It’s a way to share these emails as posts, keep them cataloged and allow folks to keep up with this project as it grows.
Creating content on the internet can be a daunting task, especially when it feels like you are sharing it to a standing army of critics. To combat this fear, I recently learned about treating it all as a parade and the things you create as a parade float. This means creating content that stands up over time and being willing to share it and fail in the open. By creating in the open and allowing people to see the things you are making, you can benefit from the feedback of others and use it to grow and improve. No one can see all of their own blindspots, but by creating in the open and allowing others to help you, you can gain valuable insight and hopefully become a better creator.
I suppose this could be applied to other areas of life - especially areas you’re feeling you need to be more bold. I guess this is me putting myself out there to say - Put yourself out there! - Have a good day!
If you're watching a parade, don't follow it. It never changes. If the parade is boring, run in the opposite direction. You will fast-forward the parade. - Mitch Hedberg
