Hobbies
I have so many hobbies
I mean,
My hobby is hobbies,
it’s a way of life I suppose.
But, it’s also overwhelming at times.
What is the point of having a ton of hobbies?
In this season of life, with a little one in the house, I'm finding a way to pare down the hobbies I have to make room for me to grow within them, and to make more time for family.
Focusing a bit, you know?
"At first, buy the absolute cheapest tools you can find. Upgrade the ones you use a lot. If you wind up using some tool for a job, buy the very best you can afford." Kevin Kelly, from his book "Excellent Advice for Living"
I've been on a streak, for as long as I can remember, of acquiring as many tools as possible. Sometimes the cheapest, but always the ones I can find. For example, I have enough screw drivers to send one to each subscriber of smoke break and still have plenty left over for when it comes time to get the job done. I don't know if that’s saying I have a bunch of screw drivers or just a few subscribers?
Why is it that you either get a screaming deal on a tool and have no immediate need for it, or wait until it’s absolutely needed for a job then pay up for it?
Same can be said with ratchets and socket sets, sawhorses, etc. I have 4 or 5 pipe wrenches and a pile of other stuff. I love to tinker in the garage, but I'm beginning to think it’s time to start to find the highest quality ones I have and send the rest to someone who can better utilize it. Or maybe someone who’s hobby is collecting miscellaneous hand tools?
Also, cameras, there was a point when I had a dozen cameras, thankfully I've cut that number in half, but it's gotta be time to pick my favorite one and send the rest down the road.
I have 4 vehicles in our driveway, a pile of guitars and synthesizers and don't get me started on my vintage laptop collection!
So, if you’re in need of any goodies, or starting a new hobby, let me know. First come first serve!
